Nuru The Chief discusses his music, future and Nwotchi
Nuru The Chief, a member of Nwotchi Complex, has been hard at work creating new music and his latest track, Habit The work starring Shepard Hues and Dusabe Two7even is a good example of his abilities. When it comes to his beat-making abilities, Nuru has been improving his craft and thanks to a deliberate work ethic combined with a creative thought process, people are starting to take notice of him. Hues, who has worked with some of Chicago’s biggest artists, took Nuru under his wing, helping him take control of his life as a producer and assisting with sound engineering as Nwotchi Complex prepares to release new music. We asked Nuru a little bit about his relationship with Shepard and Dusabe, and what to expect from him and Nwotchi in the near future.
How did you, Shepard and Dusabe first meet? How did you decide to start making music together?
Well, me, Dusabe, Loa and Frenchie the Pappy (aka ILOVEANIME) met Shepard Hues at the same time two years ago (2016), I believe… New Year’s 2016 we were actually in the studio with Shep because We wanted to start this musical journey and that’s when we officially started making music.
How does it feel to collaborate? Habit?
Well, I actually just bought a bunch of new studio equipment and Shep and I have been working together for a long time and he’s kind of like my mentor brother in music and I just created the beats and wrote my parts. The opening part that you heard, I sent it to all the people that I work with, like Nwotchi, Dusabe, my DSO, who you don’t know yet, and of course Shep and basically Dusabe were the only ones who wanted to jump on the scene This song people. Time for other niggas to regret it now lol. So I recorded my part and Dusabé sneaked into my studio and he recorded his part and basically we sent it to Shep, who was our sound engineer and he did what he did Things, you know he’s going to go crazy. He heard some things that he could add to the beat, so he added them in there and it got crazy, got silly… took it to another level, you know.
Can we expect more music from this trio?
These three people are me, Shepard Hues and Dusabe? Maybe. I’ve been making a lot of music and there’s a lot of stuff open to anyone.Because I’m the producer for most of these guys, everything is really put through my paces and people just jump on when they want to but without any real planning and only the trio’s work in store Habit But there’s a lot of music by Nwotchi, Dusabe and Shepard, yes.
Will Dusabe or Shepard appear in any upcoming Nwotchi Complex material?
Dusabe and Shep Hues are 100% present in the upcoming Nwotchi music. They were very close to everyone at Nwotchi, so we ended up working together a lot.
When can we expect some new Nwotchi music?
Nwotchi Complex will be releasing new music soon. Habit This is just the beginning, really just to launch the product. I tend to be the first one to put my feet in the water…I’m kind of like the head of a missile, so when I attack, I know we’re all coming.
What should we pay attention to in the next few months?
Yeah, we actually have a few songs in the library and we’re going to start deleting them once Habit Reaching 1,000 plays on SoundCloud and other platforms, so I’m dropping a song by Osa North next Tuesday Then maybe we’ll hear a Nwotchi song…you never know haha.We have a show coming up in Second City March 30 Then another show at the same venue April 5, So if all goes well, we’ll move on to other shows this year or next after we drop more music. But yeah, we have a lot of stuff in store for you guys, visuals, music, crazy collaborations, it’s all coming and trust me, we’re going to get it right.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
