What is your earliest hip-hop memory?
My earliest memory is when I was in the studio writing my first song and my dad was recording and performing the chorus for him.
What sets you apart from other emerging artists?
I believe I offer versatility in terms of my pen and the genres I can perform in, I have a positive look and voice, I encourage my audience to be educated and have fun while doing so, and I do not have any tattoos, Piercings, or gold teeth.
When did you realize rap was for you?
As a sophomore in high school, I performed in front of over 100 people and received a standing ovation at a pep rally.
Where did your nickname come from, 90210 Toriono?
Well…the 904 Toriono doesn’t have the same ring. I always aspired to be an artist and actor in Hollywood, my dad created a comedy series called “The Hood Gone Crazy” and the second one was called “From The Hood to Hollywood” in which I had a small role When I learned about Beverly Hills and it was one of the poshest areas in California I had a desire to move there, I learned about the zip code and realized it rhymed with my name and from then on it It was fixed.
Has this coronavirus interfered with promoting your music?
Heck, it reduces my chances of performing at venues and being exposed. I have established connections with the city’s major DJs and promoters, but currently I am unable to capitalize on the impact of COVID-19. As a new artist, people need to see me.
Drug video “Back to School”! Big respect for the positive message that track and field brings to young people! Please tell us the backstory of this song and how you connected with Swordz. This is your debut single…right?
This is my first single and the studio was like an after school program when I was growing up, my dad and godfather had the oldest permanent studio (all professional studios) in Jacksonville, Florida. Growing up as a teenager I would watch hundreds of artist sessions and Swordz was a regular at All Pro. Over time, he became someone I always wanted to work with, and when I created my project and created “Back to School,” I knew I needed him to reach his full potential on the track because he was exploring what I wanted to do. Want the voice. Song needs.
What do you hope new listeners take away from your debut album, College Kid Convo?
I want to go back to providing quality music with a positive message and a breath of fresh air rather than lyrics that emphasize jewelry, cars, and murder. Just some positive stuff.
Can we expect any new music in early 2021?
I want people to digest “College Kid Convo” first and then after finishing this semester I want to drop the EP I’m currently working on. But as of now, check out my current single and video for “Babydoll” which is my second release from the album and get ready for my next album which is about to be released “Michael Ealy” which my team is working on Los Angeles and Michael Ely guest star.
Did you vote this year?
Yes I did and I encourage all my friends and followers to vote for Joe Biden in the last election. I would like to congratulate them and hope to see some real change over the next four years of his presidency.
Any advice for new independent artists considering becoming a rapper?
You need a team in this industry to learn as much as possible and get your BDS, copyright, media library, BMI or ASCAP. Understand the business you are getting into.
