The Kennedy Center Honors Ceremony was held earlier this week. The event aims to highlight and pay tribute to some of pop culture’s most important contributors. This time, Queen Latifah is one of the winners and the legendary hostess has a talented cast of artists paying tribute to her. Generations of talented rappers come together to talk about the importance of her influence.

It all started with Missy Elliott, who recently had some history with Latifah. Earlier this year, Elliott was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, becoming the first female rapper to join its ranks. Latifah paid her a poetic tribute as part of her introduction at the inauguration ceremony. Missy talks about some of Queen Latifah’s earliest hits and their influence on the music she would later create. MC Lyte and Monie Love took the stage to perform one of their classic songs, “Ladies First.” Finally, Rapsody performed Latifah’s song “Just Another Day” as the finale, which won warm applause from the audience. Check out the full ceremony honoring the legendary rapper below.

Missy Elliott pays tribute to Queen Latifah

It’s fitting that Missy Elliott ends 2023 by paying tribute to a legend. She spent most of the year feeling honored. The biggest moment came when she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Not only did a number of celebrities show up in person to honor her, dozens of people took to the internet to express their admiration for her work and reveal how she impacted so many people.

The praises didn’t slow down either. Just earlier this week, Trina praised Missy as one of the “greats” alongside Lil Wayne. Her influence on hip-hop itself is still quite evident, too. A few months ago, Lil Durk shared a trailer with fans that featured a Missy sample prominently. What did you think of Missy Elliott’s speech and Rapsody’s performance at the Queen Latifah Kennedy Center Honors Ceremony? Let us know which show was your favorite in the comments section below.
