A college football fan is going viral after he was spotted swigging mayonnaise outside Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte. The stunt occurred during a tailgating session before Duke’s Mayo Bowl, an annual bowl game sponsored by South Carolina Condiment. The company has been sponsoring bowl games hosted by Charlotte since 2020, when they also began sponsoring a game during college football’s Kickoff Week. Additionally, the game features a mayonnaise sentiment jar as its mascot.
Video of fans slurping down mayonnaise has sparked a backlash. Many people, especially those outside of college football fans, were disgusted. However, many others celebrated the video, including Duke’s Mayo himself. The video can be said to have gone viral after it was forwarded by the game’s official X account. The Duke’s mayonnaise bowl has become famous for pranks over the years. The winning coach gets the honor of having a cooler filled with condiments dumped on them.

North Carolina faces West Virginia in Duke Mayo Bowl
The 2023 Duke Mayo Bowl will pit two teams with 8-4 records in North Carolina and West Virginia in Charlotte. The Tar Heels will be without starting quarterback Drake Maye, who opted out of the game to prepare for the NFL draft. Instead, they’ll turn to freshman Connor Harrell, who has six pass attempts this season. However, the Tar Heels had a great running game with Omarion Hampton, who finished the season with 1,442 plate appearances, ranking fifth nationally.
West Virginia, meanwhile, has an 8-4 record in the Big 12 schedule. Garrett Green Jr. will lead the Mountaineers to their first bowl game since 2021. Green has just under 3,000 passing yards this season as the Mountaineers display a fairly balanced offense. However, they need to step up on a defense that ranks 69th in the country and put pressure on North Carolina’s inexperienced signal-callers. With Meyer out, the Mountaineers have five new players on the field.
