YL Lxrd Lacree has been making passionate, heartfelt music for some time now, and his tape “Sunken Place” is another great example of his introspective skills. From personal lyrics dealing with various relationships to Takao Beats’ stellar production, this project is a complete project that brings up some real-life themes that deserve more attention. You’re obviously passionate about music. How does your daily life influence your music?
I am constantly reminded by my daily life and the endless content created around me that allows me to tell this story and raise awareness.
You do a lot of work with the producers kaohsiung beat, and create some great music together. Tell us a little bit about the chemistry between the two of you and what it was like making these items together.
Wow, Takao and I met through Twitter around 2014. We’ve been building ever since. Our chemistry continues to evolve, man, we go through normal fights like most artists and producers do, but when it comes time to make music, we lock in. He provided the tunes and I created the bebop music. Admittedly though a lot of his stuff sounds very different before I hit them because I usually find a pocket and rap. Just discovered I wasn’t following the beat format.
your latest tape sunken place Very cool and highlights your rapping abilities very well. What was it like making this tape? What do you hope people take away from it?
sunken place This was a surprise for both me and Takao as we were working on another project and this one came out after I was browsing music and decided to put together a quick playlist that highlighted how I was really feeling at the time. The theme of the tape is relationships. From business, personal, community and the overall relationship we have with all of us. One thing everyone should take away from this tape is to always be aware of how your actions and words affect other people. You never know how others will react to what you do.
You’ve been grinding for a while, what else can we expect from you in 2018?
Now sunken place Already released, expect to hear more music from me in 45-60 days. We are already working on skeleton tracks for subsequent projects.I’m also hoping to get other producers involved, like my guys all day, who was the drug producer when I started. Big shout out to my brother AllDay, let’s start from the bottom together.He influenced my style and produced my first tape american religion. I’m excited to see his growth and progress. He deserves everything God is giving him right now. So, yeah, I’m looking forward to working with both of them on a new project that’s going to have a more mature sound. It is expected to be released before SXSW.
If anyone has time just listen to one song sunken placewhich one should they choose and why?
A track that everyone should listen to is love me. This is a real track. Very relevant to every aspect of every relationship. While I’m describing it from a male and female perspective, it’s much more than that. It can be applied to every relationship period in this world. This is three stages of Love rolled into one.
