From Emmylou Harris to Brandi Clark, the home at 2356 Nanchez Trace is about 20 minutes from historic downtown Franklin, which often hosts recording artists and concerts.

The 6,139-square-foot, five-bedroom, 4.5-bathroom home features a state-of-the-art hidden recording room behind a bookshelf-shaped doorway, which the current owners say is easily one of their favorite parts of the property.

It all could be yours.

The contemporary house, which also has lakeside views and comes with two offices, a sauna, a basketball court, a gym, a garage and a large three-story garage, is now on the market for $4.97 million after a round of renovations. , including a new roof completed in 2020.

“The combination of wood and stone is what drew us to this house,” says homeowner Kim Horrocks, singer and audiobook recordist. “The large windows facing the river allow us to sit in the trees while admiring the nature surrounding the property.”

Since music is such a big part of Horrocks and husband Lee Horrocks’ lives, they have top-of-the-line equipment in their home studio. There’s a large London telephone box and a television set in a gold frame, but one of the most eye-catching features of the house isn’t inside at all.

It’s outside.

The bright yellow front door contrasts with the home’s stone and dark brown wood exterior. There is a very tall chimney, more hidden doors and other natural touches that set this home apart from its contemporaries.

“Originally, it was just a tall chimney that people could see from miles away,” said artist, songwriter and producer Lee Horrocks. “When it was originally built in 1976, it cost nearly $100,000. s material. “

The home, said to be designed by famed architect Robert Anderson, features two decks. The main dining room is made of Brazilian teak and is located above the Harpeth River, designed for nature lovers.

The master bedroom has a smaller deck with large north and east facing windows.

“I love this little deck, I always sit there and relax,” Kim Horrocks said.

One of the most detail-oriented features of the home are the corner windows, which provide viewpoints throughout the house. They are all aligned from the large windows in the entrance and living room to the windows on the east and west sides of the house. Therefore, when guests stand in any area on the main floor, they have full views.

One of Kim Horroks’ favorite features is the third-floor balcony that overlooks the living room, she said.

It has unobstructed views of the river and has been the perfect viewing spot for the couple’s favorite house concerts in the past.

“We have seats here,” she said, “and it’s always fun.”

The house will always be special to Kim Horrocks as they prepare for their next adventure.

“I remember when we moved in, we were like looking down at the river, and it was the coldest day,” she said. “The house was empty and I was shaking, but we both said, ‘This is our house.'”

“That’s when we looked at each other and said, ‘This is it.'”
