Since Christmas in July is a big deal, let’s all remember that black metal Christmas photo from last year that warmed our coal-filled hearts. In December 2021, a photo of a 30-year-old woman and her young family wearing Norwegian death metal costumes and zombie paint, standing next to Santa Claus at a mall, went viral. Daughter Charlie, 4, sits on the lap of smiling old St. Nick.
Newsweek (all publications) reprinted the photo, shown below. Lexis Baker said the photo was her boyfriend Rhett’s idea.

“He said the only thing he wanted for Christmas was for us to take pictures with Santa the way he wanted. Santa treated us like any other family and he was very sweet. The photographer was about 17 years old and before he took the picture he Say ‘everyone is smiling…or not smiling’.”
Boyfriend Red envisioned the juxtaposition of traditional Christmas and black metal. “There’s nothing better than high contrast,” says Reed. “Mix the concept of a good old family Christmas with old church burning Norwegian death metal and I have a feeling you might get an interesting picture. Since Alice Cooper and many other old metal Corpse painting has been in the metal scene since the band. But the band I’m most inspired by is definitely Mayhem.”
The accompanying video has been viewed more than 4 million times on TikTok. The film follows the gang’s trip to Chuck E. Cheese for a photo shoot. Astonishing.
