For better or worse, Lil Shine and the Summmrs represent the most dominant and prolific new wave in rap right now. While their style is fairly niche and won’t please many old-school fans, there’s still a ton of talent and engaging art to explore in their catalog. Plus, they just dropped a new single just in time for the holidays, the woozy, passionate, angry, relentless vibe of “Hop Out.”Among them, Shine and ghost The singer delivers with wild rhythms, Auto-Tune-backed vocal inflections and some eye-catching melodic embellishments. It ends up being a pretty atmospheric soundscape thanks to some droning synths, a minimalist yet crisp drum pattern, and a watery reverb adoration of the pads.

Additionally, Lil Shine and Summms displayed some contrasting and complementary vocal chemistry during their performances. The former focuses on the lilting, wailing chorus in a laid-back and charming way, supporting the instrumental rather than attacking it. “Summmrs,” on the other hand, pumps up the energy with more elevated performances, shaggy beats, and full verses. Lyrically, you can guess what they’re talking about based on the beat, although that’s nothing new these days. If you’re a fan of the Opium team’s recent work, give it a try.

I would never cheat on my partner, I have millions of dollars,
I’ll tie his ass up, I’m with Shottas, that’s a problem
