Connecticut police have issued an arrest warrant for a Mansfield Middle School teacher charged with second-degree menacing.
On Dec. 21, Kenneth Johnson, 49, of Mansfield, surrendered to state police.
He was charged with disorderly conduct and second-degree threatening and was released on $10,000 bail, according to police.
Johnson is a music teacher at Mansfield Middle School, according to the town’s website.
According to an arrest warrant, a student claimed they were playing with a stick on the school bus and the bus driver told them to throw it away. When the student failed to free himself from the stick, the bus driver asked Mr. Johnson to get on the bus and speak to the student, the warrant said.
In the arrest warrant, students claim Mr Johnson told them “I will tear your face off” if you talked back and didn’t comply with staff requests.
Police said they have reviewed bus video of the alleged incident. The charges state police filed in Superior Court were disorderly conduct and second-degree physical threats.
Last week, Mansfield Principal Peter Dart sent a letter to the families of Mansfield students and school staff following Johnson’s arrest. Johnson was reportedly placed on paid administrative leave on November 28, pending an investigation.
