Gervonta Davis recently changed her name to Abdul Wahid after converting to Islam. Directly translated, this name means “The Servant of the Absolute One” or “Servant of Allah”. Wahid converted to Islam last week and officially accepted Islam on December 24. He joins a number of high-profile Muslim boxers currently fighting. Devin Haney is also an active follower of Islam.
Wahid said he chose to convert to further his personal faith journey. It’s been a tough year for the boxer. Earlier this year, he was sentenced to 42 days in jail for a 2021 hit and run. Wahid initially served his sentence under house arrest. However, he was remanded to prison after a judge objected to the conditions of his house arrest. As a result, Waheed has not fought since defeating Ryan Garcia in April. His next fight is currently unknown.

Abdul Wahid talks potential Naoya Inoue fight
Meanwhile, Waheed recently addressed fans and asked for a match against two-division undisputed champion Naoya Inoue. “I’m not fighting him. He weighs nowhere near as much as me. (I don’t know) why this page keeps posting stuff like this,” Waheed said in response to a fan-made poster hyping a fight between the two. Nicknamed “The Monster,” Inoue earned a reputation as a generational talent in the bantamweight and super bantamweight divisions. He currently has a record of 26-0 after capturing the super bantamweight title against Marlon Tapales.
However, Wade currently competes at least at lightweight, two weight classes above super lightweight. This means Inoue will make a significant jump to the same weight level as Waheed.
