Dolly Parton just got a fan’s wish. Two years after a Utah man named LeGrand Gold made his bucket list while battling stage 4 colorectal cancer, the 77-year-old country star passed The phone serenaded him, fulfilling one of his wildest dreams.
The bittersweet moment was captured in a video posted to YouTube, showing Gold lying in bed as Parton chatted with him on speakerphone. “I love knowing that I have a loyal fan and that I’ve had the opportunity to go on this journey over the years,” Parton tells Gold in the film. “I heard you’ve been a fan of mine for years and I just wanted to thank you for that.”
“I’m so happy that we get to take this journey together in this life,” she continued. “I always want people to feel good about my music and what I do and what I say, and I love knowing that I impacted your life in some way. So thank you for honoring me with this. ”
The ten-time Grammy winner just released her debut rock album rock starIt debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 last month and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022. To end her conversation with Gold, she sang an excerpt from one of her most famous works and added his nickname at the end. “I will always love you, I will always love LG,” she whispered.
The Utah man explained to local media that after he was diagnosed with cancer in 2021, he and his wife, Alice, took out a pen and listed his biggest dreams on a napkin to keep their hopes high . Project No. 7 was meeting the “9 to 5” singer — “I thought, ‘Well, this is never going to happen,'” he told local NBC affiliate KSL.
“She sang me a song and put my name in the song,” he added. “I feel like I’m immortal now.”
