Juliana Martina – Page (Julianna Martina/AudioMaze, 2023)

Juliana Martina’s latest album, Place is a real gem! I recently stumbled upon this incredibly talented singer and her music is like a breath of fresh air in the world of music.

Born to a Colombian family on the sunny Caribbean island of Curaçao, Juliana Martina brings a unique blend of Colombian and Caribbean styles to her soulful jazz style. Imagine silky smooth vocals infused with the warmth and color of her multicultural influences.

Juliana’s musical career began on her native island, but at the age of ten, she packed her bags and headed to Europe. This cultural mashup makes her sound truly special. She honed her skills at the Rotterdam Conservatoire, specializing in the traditional music of Latin America.

What sets Juliana apart is her deep connection to Latin American and Caribbean folklore, which is reflected in her writing skills in Spanish and Papiamentu (Curaçao, Bonaire and Aruba language) written lyrics. Her music elegantly blends Colombian traditions with modern jazz styles.

Last April Juliana gave an outstanding performance at the Muziekgebouw aan ‘t Ij in Amsterdam with the internationally renowned reed quintet Calefax. She’s made a splash, being a finalist in the Días Latinos Awards and performing to a packed house at the 2022 Amersfoort Jazz Festival.

Not only that, Juliana was selected as one of the 2022 On The Roof Talent Track’s “Young Creators” and performed a sold-out show at the On The Roof concert series in August.
