sedona news – On Sunday, January 7, 2024, violinist Tessa Lark will return to the Sedona Chamber Music Stage along with bassist/composer Michael Thurber and jazz harpist/composer Charles Overton for a concert showcasing everything from blue to blue Works to originals from genres ranging from bluegrass to jazz to classical music. Tessa Lark is considered one of the most captivating artistic voices working today, acclaimed by critics and audiences alike for her stunning vocal range, technical agility, and musical elegance. In 2020, she was nominated for a Grammy in the Best Classical Instrumental Solo category and received one of Lincoln Center’s prestigious Emerging Artist Awards: the Special Hunter Family Award. Lark regularly performs as a soloist with major orchestras around the world and has appeared in prestigious venues and series including the Amsterdam Concertgebouw and a unique debut series at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Hall (2017). She is also a critically acclaimed fiddler in the tradition of her native Kentucky, and her repertoire includes Appalachian and bluegrass music, entertaining audiences and inspiring artists to write for her.
Lark currently tours the world as a duo with Michael Thurber. Whether it’s writing scores for the Royal Shakespeare Company, playing bass in the house band for “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” creating commercials for Vanity Fair and the BBC, or co-founding the popular YouTube channel CDZA (30 million views) , Thurber’s career was exemplary. . He made his international debut as a theatrical lyricist/composer with the score for Antony and Cleopatra directed by Academy Award winner Tarell McCraney. He has scored numerous public theater productions, and his musical GODDESS had its world premiere at Berkeley Rep in fall 2022. As a bassist, Thurber has performed with several iconic artists, including James Taylor, Willie Nelson, Yo Yo Mama, and many more. His career as a producer began in 2012 when he co-founded CDZA, which headlined the inaugural YouTube Music Awards. Most recently, Thurber released a single under his own name.
Whether in an orchestra or a jazz club, harpist Charles Overton is equally adept at creating an approachable and exciting musical environment that resonates deeply with any audience, regardless of musical genre. At the age of 10, he began studying harp under the tutelage of Lynelle Ediger. As a member of the Youth Harp Ensemble of America, he had the opportunity to perform internationally in prestigious venues at a young age. After perfecting his performance and competition skills at the Interlochen Academy of the Arts, Overton attended Berklee College of Music, where he was the first harpist to be accepted into the school’s prestigious Global Jazz Institute. His senior recital at one of Boston’s premier jazz clubs became the beginning of The Charles Overton Group, which released its debut album, Convergence, in 2017. As Overton continues to expand his musical talents, he has shared the stage with various groups, artists and orchestras, performing as a jazz musician at festivals and jazz series nationally and internationally, and as a classical musician, Composer and educator.
